Ingredients:
1 lb Italian sausage
1 tbsp olive oil
1 small onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, undrained
1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
1 tsp dried basil
1 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
1/2 cup heavy cream
12 oz bow tie pasta
Salt and pepper, to taste
Freshly grated Parmesan cheese, for garnish
Fresh basil, chopped, for garnish
Directions:
Cook the bow tie pasta according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the Italian sausage and cook until browned, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks.
Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
Stir in the diced tomatoes (with their juice), tomato sauce, dried basil, dried oregano, and crushed red pepper flakes. Bring to a simmer and let cook for 10 minutes.
Stir in the heavy cream and cook for another 2-3 minutes, until the sauce is heated through.
Add the cooked pasta to the skillet and toss to coat evenly with the sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Serve the pasta with freshly grated Parmesan cheese and chopped fresh basil on top.
