1 tablespoon olive oil
1 onion, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1 pound ground beef
1 cup tomato sauce
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
8 slices of bread
4 tablespoons butter, softened
8 slices cheddar cheese
INSTRUCTIONS
Prepare the Sloppy Joe Mixture:
Sauté Onion and Garlic:
Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
Add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
Cook Ground Beef:
Add 1 pound ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spatula. Drain any excess fat.
Add Sauces and Season:
Stir in 1 cup tomato sauce, 2 tablespoons ketchup, and 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce.
Season with salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for about 10 minutes until the mixture thickens.
Assemble the Sandwiches:
Butter the Bread:
Butter one side of each of the 8 slices of bread.
Prepare the First Layer:
Place four slices of bread, butter-side down, on a skillet over medium heat.
On each slice, place a slice of cheddar cheese.
Add the Sloppy Joe Mixture:
Spoon some of the beef mixture onto each slice of cheese-covered bread.
Top with another slice of cheddar cheese.
Top with Bread:
Cover with another slice of bread, butter-side up.
Grill the Sandwiches:
Grill:
Grill until the bread is golden brown and the cheese has melted, about 4-5 minutes per side.
Serve:
